Snapshots from the Borders Workshop – an informative and engaging event on migration for public authorities and civil society organisations in Constanta

 

Novapolis Association – Center of Analysis and Initiatives for Development in partnership with the Municipality of Constanţa organized an Informative Workshop on Wednesday, 10th of October, 2018, addressed to the institutional and nongovernmental actors in Constanţa that have competences or are involved in the integration of migrants and refugees.

 

The workshop Snapshots from the Borders, activity of the project “Snapshots from the borders – Small towns facing the global challenges of Agenda 2030”, CSO-LA/2017/388-115, has brought into discussion interesting aspects regarding main determinants of migration, the sustainable development goals and migration as well as the dynamics of the migration phenomenon and management of migration, reception and integration of refugees in Romania

The interventions of representatives from Novapolis Association, Constanta Municipality, Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies, Coast Guard (Border Police), Constanta Civic Resources Center, Ovidius Constanta University, Pedagogical College Constantin Bratescu, Center for Asylum and Refugees Accomodation and Procedures in Galati, Immigration Territorial Service Constanta and the Association for the Promotion of Legal Migration debated relevant and up-to-date topics such as local experiences in immigrants reception and work with refugees, institutional, legislative and cooperation issues at local and regional level as well as public opinion on immigrants’ integration.

The event gathered participants from the main fields of the process of migrants’ reception and integration, local public authorities included the County Agency for Payments and Social Inspection, the County School Inspectorate, the General Directorate for Social Assistance and Child Protection, the Department for Sport and Youth, the County Agency for Employment, plus the social partners and NGOs active in the field.

The working sessions were very interactive and raised much interest while the consultation part of the workshop provided valuable suggestions and ideas regarding the Border Town Network that will be developed and consolidated within the project.

Moreover, the participants had the opportunity to interact directly with experts and specialists in the field, as well as with immigrants and intercultural mediators, and to discuss the issue of migration and to watch a series of video and information materials and to share their experience.
