The cultural and artistic Public Event “Migration stories: places, people, communities” – project CLARINET

The Municipality of Constanta together with Novapolis Association – Center of Analysis and Initiatives for Development organised on Friday, 10th of September 2021, the cultural and artistic Public Event “Migration stories: places, people, communities”.

The event took place in Constanta, at the Educational Multifunctional Centre “Jean Constantin” as series of artistic activities, music and traditional Dobrogean dances. The Event included an art exihibition of the the artistic products made within the CLARINET artistic residency program held in Constanta between July – August 2021. The event also provided the space for active discussions regarding immigration and integration and the important role of the local authorities.
The event „Migration stories: places, people, communities” aimed to highlight the positive contribution of immigrants in Constanta area and to raise awareness regarding immigration at the local level of Constanța and South-East region of Romania. The Event offered real facts and information about immigrants in Romania while providing the possibility for the natives to hear migrant stories and to learn more about and the immigrant communities in Constanta. Moreover, this local public campaign aimed to draw attention to the problems of millions of refugees and migrants around the world – a call for more solidarity and responsibility towards them, especially in these harsh times with the situation of Afghanistan.
Dobrogea region has always been and it will continue to be an welcoming territory, a home for many migrants that choose to settle here, especially in the Constanta area, for various reasons, such as: to attend the well-known universities, to find employment, to set-up a business, or to live here with their families.
The Public Event „Migration stories: places, people, communities” aimed to build a bridge of dialogue with a positive impact over the perception of the local community from Constanta regarding the immigrants by promoting involvement and interaction between the natives and the immigrants through the performing arts, paintings and graphics as a universal language that connects all community members.
The event was organised within the CLARINET project (Communication of Local AuthoRities for INtegration in European Towns) which is co-funded by the European Union through the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF), contract no. 821562, implemented through a multi-stakeholders partnership in 8 EU Member States, respectively, 7 local authorities located in border areas, 9 Civil Society Organizations and 2 international networks, headed by the Municipality of Lampedusa and Linosa (Italy).
