DCYDE!

Digital Global Citizenship Education for Youngsters and Educators in Partnership

What does “DCYDE!” do?

‘DCYDE!’ is committed to Digital Global Citizenship Education (D-GCE). In concrete terms, this means that young people should learn to understand what it means to be part of a global society and the global interconnections and interdependencies that exist within it. The project uses innovative educational activities to create digital – and therefore location-independent – learning communities. This way, young people from different countries and with different cultures, ethnicities, and religions can broaden their horizons, work together globally, and initiate positive change in their communities and beyond.

‘DCYDE!’ is revolutionising education systems by creating hybrid learning environments based on gender and anti-discrimination principles. Through youth-driven living labs, the project cultivates behavioural change, social negotiation and mutual understanding, intercultural skills, and an awareness of global citizenship. The aim is to show young people why international cooperation is important for sustainable development worldwide.

Who is the project aimed at?

The focus of ‘DCYDE!’ is to support teachers and institutions in sustainably embedding Digital Global Citizenship Education (D-GCE) in schools and communities. Through training courses, people who are active in educational work will be trained as multipliers for sustainable development. In addition to training the necessary content and technical skills, ‘DCYDE!’ also supports those involved with the provision of a pedagogical concept, educational materials and media tools.

The programme is therefore primarily aimed at

– Teachers and educators in the formal and informal education sector

– Youth organisations and movements

– Civil society organisations (CSOs)

Why is this project important?

‘DCYDE!’ fills a gap! We live in an interconnected world, which offers many advantages in shaping a fair and sustainable future. However, although GCE and digital education are already receiving attention in some EU countries, progress across Europe remains limited. Challenges include a lack of digital skills and limited access, fragmented societal attitudes and too few sustainability principles in education systems.

‘DCYDE!’ addresses these barriers by helping young people understand complex global challenges and by motivating them to actively contribute to positive change. For the first time, the project harnesses the immense potential of our globalised world by using digital solutions to advance global sustainable development and provide unprecedented impetus to development cooperation.

DCYDE is co-funded through the European Union’s DEAR programme, project code NDICI CSO/2023/448-376** and is being implemented during the period 01.07.2024 – 30.06.2027, in collaboration with other non-governmental organizations and networks from Germany, Austria, Poland, Malta, Italy, Latvia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Hungary, and Belgium.
