CDMiR: a common vision for migrant and refugee integration in Romania

Working together for a green, competitive and inclusive Europe

Context

Romania becoming more and more country of destination for migrants rather than a country of origin. More and more people are settling here for studies, jobs, to be with their families, or to flee war and persecution.

However, national migration policies focus on securing borders, and migrants and refugees, a growing social group, are given few opportunities to integrate or become civically active.

Migrants and refugees need targeted measures that will allow them to become part of the community, to be productive and to reach their true potential in Romanian society.

The Coalition for Migrant and Refugee Rights

The Coalition for Migrant and Refugee Rights – CDMiR was established in 2017 in response to the increasingly complex integration needs of migrants and refugees

Currently, CDMiR brings together 23 non-governmental organizations and 5 supporters including academia and international organizations, being the only Coalition of civil societies in Romania active in the field of migration, asylum and integration. CDMiR members cover a wide range of areas of expertise, including research, advocacy, material, legal and medical assistance, guidance and intercultural dialogue.
