In the context of the Covid-19 and the establishment of the state of emergency in Romania, Novapolis Association together with 15 organizations, member of the Coalition for Migrant and Refugee Rights (CDMiR), sent an letter to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to ask for solidarity, tolerance and respect for refugees and migrants that are residing or working in our country.
Therefore, a series of recommendations were made regarding the limitation of the negative effects of COVID-19 on the communities of migrants and refugees and we requested the following:
▪️Inclusion of migrants and refugees in all strategies and measures adopted by central and local authorities in the field of preventing the spread of COVID-19 infections;
▪ The translation into English of the public communications issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Labor regarding the recommendations and measures adopted in order to prevent the spread of the COVID-19, as well as the widespread dissemination of these translations (including the statements requested by the authorities);
▪️Supplementing actions to inform foreign citizens and employers about their rights and obligations in the field of work and strengthening the mechanisms of control and notification of possible abuses or exploitation situations;
▪ Adapted programs funded through the European Funds for Asylum, Migration and Integration (FAMI) to enable the adoption of a set of urgent measures designed to respond to the needs arising or exacerbated as a result of the COVID-19.
